League Game

Having not played a league game for nearly 4 weeks Civil Service had dropped from top to mid table and faced league leaders Leominster Town with a few players missing but had new signing Connor Herbert on the bench after he had joined from Belmont. This game was their first game back at their spiritual home of Grandstand Park and they started brightly, Judd setting up Jones with an excellent back heel that split the Leominster defence and was duly dispatched. Service continued to press and were pulling the Leominster defence apart at will and Jones showed tremendous prowess to collect a hat-trick from the spot with just 7 minutes on the board. Leominster responded strongly and created chances of their own but were unfortunate to find Dan Gay in inspired form as he made some good saves in difficult conditions. A well placed cross from Jelfs shortly before half time put the icing on what was an excellent opening 45 minutes from the Servicemen.

The second half saw Civil Service again start on the back foot but a defence mix up allowed Jones in for his fourth and this opened the floodgates. Will Jelfs scored the goal of the game after some fine work down the right before eventualy hitting a rasping 25 yard shot into the top corner. Day scored with a difficult header in the conditions at back host and Herbert’s impressive debut off the bench culminated in a well taken goal.

The result however excellent could have been more although Leominster were desperately unlucky not to register themselves. Service will look to build on the result as they enter  vital set of fixtures before christmas.
