A slow start against Fownhope Reserves meant Civil Service were relying on Dan Gay to keep the scores level with several quality saves – one from a header in the first two minutes was top drawer as he somehow clawed it out and then recovered to smother the ball. Eventually Service managed to get into the game and started to cause some problems of their own with Lumpy going close after some good work by Jones and Judd. Another chance came the way of Reece Calder who narrowly went wide when clean through. However Fownhope always looked dangerous going forward as their pace and skill across the front was causing the Service defence endless problems. Service somehow managed to keep the score to just the single goal till half time. After some regrouping at the interval, Service came out strongly and hit back through a Jamie Jones header from a Sheriff corner early in the second half. Shortly after Jones missed another chance and Judd crashed a header against the bar Fownhope were awarded a penalty in what was a dreadful refereeing mistake which was calmly slotted away. Although Service pressed forward looking for the equaliser it was Fownhope who had the final word as they netted with the final kick of the game to win 3-1. It was an admiral performance by Service as they recovered from a dreadful start.
