After last week’s encouraging performance much was expected of a much changed Civil Service FC XI as they travelled over the river to Holme Lacey. However it was to be a tough first fifteen minutes as Holme Lacey created chance after chance and only a series of fine saves from Dan Guy kept the scores level. Eventually Service started to compete and managed to earn some possession which they quickly capitalised on and managed to get in front through a scrambled finish from Chapman.

With the goal helping to settle down the side, some free-flowing football followed and further goals from Chapman and Sheriff followed thus enabling Service to take a 3-0 lead. Lacey reacted and finished the half more like they had started, dominating the final five minutes and were unfortunate not to pull at least one goal back.

After the break Service played well without reaching the heights of the first half, Sheriff missed an open goal after Jones had squared the ball across the face of the goal but eventually Service added to their total through a Jones goal after some good link-up play.

To their credit Holme Lacey continued looking for that elusive goal and were rewarded at a corner with ten minutes remaining.

A 4-1 was probably generous to a Service side which included a number of debutants who all performed excellently.
