League Game

Civil Service were undone by a Burghill team containing many new faces from earlier including many who apparently weren’t signed on. Never the less Service wasted several chances and were thankful themselves for some excellent keeping from Dan Gay at times.

Despite having six changes forced on them from the XI that started against Withington FC and missing key players such as Morris, Simms, the Atkins and Gaywood as well as Johnson who had been excellent in that game, CSFC started brightly and created chances early on, however it was a long ball over the top that led to the opening Burghill goal. Service responded but were struggling to cope with a Burghill side that was strong on the counter attack.

A change in formation had little chance to take effect before another defensive lapse led to Burghill doubling their lead after a poor defensive clearance.

Service continued to push and some hard work from Parrett and Day led to a mistake in the Burghill defence that Day was on hand to finish expertly. With Kaye and Chapman hitting the woodwork it could have been a very different outcome but Service were left to taste defeat for the second time this season.
